The only picture ever taken of Concorde flying at Mach 2 (1,350 mph). Taken by Adrian Meredith from an RAF Tornado fighter jet, which only rendezvoused with Concorde for 4 minutes over the Irish Sea: The Tornado was rapidly running out of fuel, struggling to keep up with Concorde at Mach 2.

The only photo of a Concorde flying at Mach 2 taken by Adrian Meredith from an RAF Tornado attack fighter over the Irish Sea in April 1985.

Concorde was a supersonic airliner, meaning that it could fly faster than the speed of sound. Built by Britain and France, Concorde was in service from 1976 to 2003. It was the fastest airliner ever, with a cruising speed of 1,354mph (2,179km/h). But it was costly to run and could carry less than 130 passengers.

Aircraft flying at supersonic speeds cause a shock wave in the air that is heard on the ground as a loud "boom." Because of this, Concorde only went supersonic over the sea or away from inhabited areas.

Concorde could cross the Atlantic Ocean in about 3.5 hours, compared to around 8 hours for a normal airliner.

Note: I so regret not flying on the Concorde when I had several chances. I really love airplanes - Dad worked in the industry as an A&P mechanic for 33 years, and we flew a lot during my youth. I was able to sit in a passenger seat and go into the cockpit of a Concorde during a tour at the Intrepid museum in NY. I highly recommend the museum, and the Concorde tour - especially if the guy from NZ is the tour guide - he is very passionate about this beautiful and incredible aircraft.

A photo taken 60 years ago of Hollywood’s two most alluring sex symbols is still getting a lot of attention. The most famous side-eye or even stink eye photo in history belongs to Sophia Loren’s reaction to Jayne Mansfield and her famous large assets! Here’s a little history of the iconic photo that appeared in newspapers and magazines with the word ‘censored’ hiding Jayne's exposed breast.

According to People Magazine, in 1957, Sophia Loren had just signed a deal with Paramount and had come to California, and Paramount threw a big welcome party for her in Beverly Hills and Jayne Mansfield was on the guest list.

Mansfield sat down at Loren’s table which included actor Clifton Webb and of course, had every eye in the room watching her. She barely dressed for this event and her famous ample breasts were the focus of a notorious publicity stunt intended to take the media attention away from newcomer Loren. Loren couldn’t help but stare at her exposed nipple, as she was fearful that they would come down crashing down on her plate!

“She came right for my table,” Sophia Loren recalled in an interview with Entertainment Weekly in 2014. “She knew everyone was watching. She sat down. And now, she was barely … Listen. Look at the picture. Where are my eyes? I’m staring at her nipples because I am afraid they are about to come onto my plate.”

“In my face you can see the fear. I’m so frightened that everything in her dress is going to blow—BOOM!—and spill all over the table,” she added.

While the two women can be seen laughing and smiling together in other photos from the night, Loren made it clear that the infamous photo (above) best represents the situation. “There may be other photos, but this is the picture. This is the one that shows how it was. This is the only picture,” she explained.

All these years later, Loren said she’s still asked to autograph the photo. “Many, many times I am given this photo to autograph it,” she said. “And I never do. I don’t want to have anything to do with that. And also out of respect for Jayne Mansfield because she’s not with us anymore.” (Mansfield died in 1967).

Glamour hasn't come close to this since.

Pictured here is rock band ZZ Top playing the Little Cypress-Mauriceville High School senior prom in Orange, Texas, May of 1971. As it turns out, sometime between signing the contract and the date of the actual event, the band became huge.

They actually tried to get out of it last minute but the school couldn't get anyone else and the band had signed a contract so they had to perform. So there they were, the biggest new rock band to hit airwaves, jamming out a paper streamer filled gymnasium for a graduating class of about 100 kids... until word got out and people were climbing through windows to crash a prom
I saw ZZ Top @ the felt forum in 75 and I'll bet there were more ppl at the prom than the forum @MSG.
