Tipping

"Totally Worth It!"
Waiting jobs the minimums wage is lower than the federally mandated $7.25. Waiters literally get paid like $2 an hour if you exclude tips. So do delivery drivers for pizzerias and pizza chains (and the chains still charge a delivery fee which, you guessed it, doesn’t go to the driver)I always tip. Been maybe 1 or 2 incidents in my life were the service and/or food was complete dogshit and I didn’t leave a tip
Yeah, they have a separate minimum wage scale. Always thought that was stupid.

The worst thing is, no matter HOW MUCH someone tips, when they treat the staff poorly. Sometimes horribly.
*If it's that bad, leave.
*Realize the shittier you treat them, the more likely your food will be tainted.
*PRETEND to be nice or apologetic. Say "I'm sorry, I didn't want dressing on this". Instead of, "I KNOW WHAT I ORDERED AND IT'S MY GOD DAMN MONEY. FIX THIS!".
*If you MUST get upset, know where to direct it.

What's worse is I hate tipping for take out. Like I went to get sushi and of course they have the little ipad that they turn around in order to shame u into tipping. Like wtf am I tipping for in this instance? I'm not eating in the restaurant or getting served even. That's bullshit.

I hate being nickel and dimed. If u want tips, charge me more money instead. It's not that difficult.

I went to Best Buy the other day. I needed a small network switch to replace one that crapped out. It was like $40 bucks. I found it on the shelf myself, brought it up to the register, and when I went to pay, the tip screen came up - just as if I was in a restaurant and was paying my bill! I am not skimpy when it comes to tipping wait staff, even if it's just a walk-up place, but there was no way in hell I was going to tip the staff at Best Buy.

This is getting ridiculous

WTF??? Tipping at best buy? Those guys are making $20 an hour.

Maybe we should start tipping Amazon orders too.

How about the price on the label is actually what you pay? This fucking deceptive practice of not showing the out the door price is psychological manipulation. Tips should be included on the bill and expressly identified.

I would gladly accept a 20% across the board increase in restaurant prices in order to eliminate the practice of tipping.

But that ain't gonna happen so I tip 20-25%, pretty much regardless of the quality of service.

Tipping allows the employees to earn a portion of their income as tax free income, thus allowing the restaurant to pay less in payroll taxes. Tipping is not going away.

It hurts.
What infuriates me is the states that are allowed to $2.35 a hour because they factor in tips.
If they don’t make enough money they are still expect to pay taxes on money not made.

clunky grammar but I’m not fixin’it

Officially server are required to pay 7% taxes whether they earned it or not.

This. I don't go out to eat a lot but when I get exceptional service I tip really well, ok service I tip the normal amount and really shitty service I tip poorly. It's really quite simple

Tipping culture is 100% fucking lame.

When/if you do an amazing job, you damn well better believe that I'm going to give you something extra because YOU did something extra to earn that. My thanks to you.

But these days the tip bucket is out when I go to get take out and other inane activities that absolutely do NOT require an extra bit of cash being thrown down.

If you can't fucking pay your workers, don't open a business and fuck you dry, hard, sharp, and long.

BTW if i’m at a place that i frequent i usually leave 20%. But if new staff come in and do a shitty job i leave 0.0 or a few dollars
The manager will notice this and question the waiter.

If that were to be the case, the service would go downhill. Removing the tip would be removing the incentive for most of the servers.

That might be setting the bar a little low. Most of the world does a job without tips and most people do fine. They would adapt.

They skate around the minimum wage by factoring in tips. Some servers make $2.57 an hour tip or not.
How they get away with that scheme is unethical and pure greed.
In most States working people get minimum wage plus tips.

CA $15.00hr. + tips

CT $6.28hr +tips

DE $2.23 +tips

We need a federal minimum, not a shifty scam for imaginary money someone might make.

As of last night, I'm done with it.

We went out to eat and when paying the minimum the machine would let be tip was 20%.

It's a scam to get customers to subsidize the employee's salary. Charge me whatever and pay your fucking employees a living wage.

It's thing now:

Now 15 per cent is rude:' Tipping fatigue hits customers as requests rise
The tipping point for Caitlin Green came when she was buying infant formula.

"I was asked to tip for an online order of baby formula," said Green, a new mom and radio announcer in Toronto....

Would you rather tip 20% or pay more for your meal?

If it winds up you’re going to be paying about the same in both cases then who gives a fuck?

We tip in this country because the server or bartender works for the patron more than they work for the establishment. Eventually, if all the servers in the restaurant get paid a flat wage, regardless of ability, you could wind up with the worst one in the restaurant. Who’s dining experience does that ultimately affect?

Why should they get to skip out on paying taxes on all their income like the rest of us working stiffs?

You, quite eloquently, have proven how fucking miserable and broken the system is. Thanks.

Sort of along the same lines of this topic…I was near a restaurant that I have ordered from on Grubhub, so I decided to get carryout. I looked on my Grubhub history to see what I ordered in the past to get that exact order again. Found out when I paid that the Grubhub cost was $5 higher for one entree, plus they charge $5 in fees and then you also have to tip the driver. I won’t be using Grubhub again.
Similar BS with a local pizza place. Delivery is now a $5 fee regardless of the order size. Plus you have to tip the driver. Either charge me a fee and pay fairly or no fee and I will give a larger tip.
