I was listening to an old birthday show from '96 today, and as Howard was interviewing Peter Weller about Robocop, he says something like "Hey, play that one clip from Robocop that I love so much, the one that Ralph says in my basement all the time."
And then just thinking about the discussion on your show... Ralph playing games with Howard like two little kids all the time in his basement, hiding from his family... WHO THE FUCK DOES THIS? I mean even if the two of them weren't engaged in hardcore buttfucking down there, it's still goddamn creepy!
I'm one of those stupid holdouts who maybe thinks Stern is probably just a hetero weirdo, but fucking hell.... really kinda easy to accept the faegala idea now....
edit: still listening to this birthday show... Howard had a HUGE fight with his wife last night, now 'jokingly' saying "you're driving me into the arms of men!" haha fuck...

Just listened - great show! I think Ralph knows way too much, so he's being protected. The fact that he's on Howard's payroll is so telling. The real Homo Room was Howard's basement vault in the 90s.
my only complaint is you guys have to do 3hrs for these kind of shows

I believe @Monique wanted this particular type of show to be a bit more streamlined--God knows you could do several hours on faggy cakes--and this one might have been longer than she wanted but still shorter than normal episodes. I think you may get some special 20/20 type investigative shows in the near future for when the show goes dark.

The theory that Howard can't get rid of Ralph because he knows too much gay and wig stuff implies he ever wanted to get rid of him, which I think is silly. A no-talent, lazy leech like Ralph could have easily been paid off and gotten rid of a long time ago. Also, at the height of his powers, I think Howard could (and would, imo) have clandestinely driven Ralph to suicide had he threatened to out him (think Chevy Chase x1,000,000).
I think it's very simple: Howard keeps Ralph around because Howard and Ralph are gay bros, and Howard likes gaying it up with him, so he put Ralph on the payroll and decided to take care of him long-term.

Anyone remember Vashier's theory at DS that Ralph is Howard's illegitimate brother?
Argument was that when Ben first heard about Howard divorcing Alison, he told him not to do that but instead get someone else on the side - theory was that's what Ben did (IIRC, Ralph's real father left when he was young). That coupled with the fact that Howard and Ralph look alike - both hideous looking as well as much taller than average.
Not sure about this theory, but it's got more of a chance to be true than Stern's tale of how he met Beth.

My husband emailed me this exact phrase about Howard's sexuality today: "Howard would be more manly if he wore a pink tutu"
The thing about this theory is that, to me Howard get his looks mostly from his mom. His eyes,nose etc. So it would seem that Ralph would look more like Ben's side of the family. But he does look like Hmus for sure. Maybe its a whole Liberace thing where he wants his lover to look like him. He is THAT in love with himself...
